Uber Freight has joined forces with Greenlane, a key player in public electric commercial truck charging, to accelerate the growth and deployment of electric charging stations tailored for commercial trucks.

Greenlane, a $650 million joint venture involving Daimler Truck North America, NextEra Energy Resources, and BlackRock, will leverage data from Uber Freight’s logistics network. This collaboration aims to gain crucial insights into the strategic development and installation of public charging stations along North American highways. With $18 billion in active freight under management, Uber Freight’s extensive network data will complement Greenlane’s analysis, identifying high-potential corridors for early deployment of heavy-duty Battery Electric Vehicles (HD BEV), assessing charging infrastructure needs, and identifying shipping lanes for electrification.

The partnership also explores the integration of Uber Freight’s technology to facilitate in-app charging appointment scheduling, provide information on Greenlane charging station locations, offer fuel card discounts, and more directly to carriers.

Acknowledging the current obstacle of a nationwide electric charging infrastructure for commercial vehicles, both companies emphasize the importance of overcoming this hurdle to encourage increased deployment of HD BEVs by fleets. Greenlane’s initial focus will involve establishing charging corridors in Southern California, followed by the Texas Triangle and the northeastern United States.

To support these efforts, Uber Freight is unveiling a comprehensive whitepaper that delves into data-driven insights. This resource will guide Greenlane in deciding optimal locations and timings for the installation of charging and hydrogen fueling stations. Leveraging Uber Freight’s network data, the analysis includes lane and region prioritization, facility enhancement recommendations for shippers, and other valuable findings.

This collaboration represents a significant step forward in the push towards electrification within the trucking industry, with a commitment to fostering sustainable and efficient solutions for the future.
